Wiper Blades for Sale in South Africa

UV-Resistant Blades.
Built for SA Sun.

Wiper blades are the single most-neglected safety part on most cars. They’re cheap, easy to overlook, and start failing months before most drivers replace them. In South Africa’s UV-heavy climate, that failure happens faster than anywhere else. At Just Brakes & Clutch we stock Cava UV-resistant wiper blades for most vehicles on SA roads.

What we stock

Cava UV-Resistant Wiper Blades

Our wiper range is the Cava product line — UV-resistant rubber wiper blades engineered for South African conditions, in front and rear fitments for most passenger cars and light commercials.

UV Resistance

Why UV-Resistance Matters in South Africa.

Wiper blade rubber is constantly attacked by ultraviolet light, ozone, road grime, and temperature swings. In temperate climates a basic blade might last 18 months. In South Africa, where the UV index sits at “very high” to “extreme” for most of the year, the same blade can be visibly cracked and streaking within six months.

UV-resistant blades — like the Cava range we stock — use compounds specifically formulated to resist this degradation. The visible result is a blade that maintains clean rubber-to-glass contact for 12-18 months in SA conditions, rather than 4-6 months for cheap unbranded blades.

Front vs Rear

Front vs Rear Wiper Blades

Most cars have two front blades (driver and passenger side) and increasingly a single rear blade on hatchbacks, estates, and SUVs. The Cava range covers all three.

Important things to know:

  • Front blades are usually different sizes on driver and passenger sides. Many cars have a longer driver-side blade (typically 600-700 mm) and a shorter passenger-side blade (typically 400-500 mm).
  • Rear blades are usually shorter (typically 250-350 mm) and use different attachment types from the front.
  • Attachment types vary — J-hook is most common, but push-button, pin-lock, bayonet, side-pin, and several proprietary systems also exist. Cava blades are available with the right adapter for most attachment types.
Sizing

How to Size Your Wiper Blades.

Three reliable ways to find the right size:

  • Vehicle handbook — most owner manuals list the wiper blade sizes for driver, passenger, and rear positions.
  • Measure your existing blades — remove a blade and measure end-to-end in millimetres. Round up to the nearest standard size.
  • Use the parts catalogue — search by vehicle make, model, and year.

Our store staff can also look up wiper sizes for any vehicle in under a minute — bring the registration or model details.

Replacement Signs

When to Replace Your Wiper Blades

Replace wipers when you see any of:

  • Streaking or smearing across the glass
  • Chattering or skipping instead of smooth motion
  • Visible cracks, splits, or torn rubber along the blade
  • Missed areas at the top, bottom, or middle of the wiper sweep
  • Squeaking that was not there before

At minimum, inspect annually and replace every 12-18 months in SA conditions, even if the blades still seem OK — degraded rubber does not always look bad until it is almost done.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I replace wiper blades in South Africa?

Every 12-18 months for UV-resistant blades like Cava, or annually as a safe default. Cheap unbranded blades often need replacing twice a year in SA's UV-heavy climate.

Can I replace just the rubber strip instead of the whole blade?

Some wiper systems use refillable rubber inserts, but most modern blades are replaced as a complete unit. Cava blades are sold as complete units with the correct adapter.

Why do my wipers streak even when new?

Most often: contamination on the windscreen (wax, polish residue, tree sap, bird droppings) rather than blade defects. Clean the windscreen thoroughly with glass cleaner before fitting new blades. If streaking persists, the blade may not be sitting flat against the glass.

Do I really need different sizes for driver and passenger sides?

Almost certainly yes on modern cars. The driver-side blade is usually 50-200 mm longer than the passenger-side. Using two of the same size leaves areas uncleaned or causes the blades to clash mid-sweep.

Are aftermarket wiper blades as good as OEM?

Quality aftermarket blades like Cava match or exceed OEM specifications, often at less than half the price. Wiper blades are a high-margin OEM dealer item — paying main-agent prices rarely buys you better performance.

Does Just Brakes & Clutch fit wiper blades?

Most wiper blades take 30 seconds to fit at the car — clip off, clip on. Our staff will demonstrate when you collect, and you can do it in our car park if you would prefer.
