Brake & Clutch Parts and Fitment Advice in South Africa

Quality Parts.
Trusted Fitment.

At Just Brakes & Clutch we specialise in supplying the parts that keep South African cars stopping and shifting reliably — and connecting customers with trusted workshops that fit them properly. We’re not a fitment chain; we’re a parts business with a national footprint, 14 stores, and a network of fitment partners we can recommend.

Everything is available for trade customers (workshops, fleet operators, resellers) on account, or to walk-in retail customers at any of our 14 stores.

Brake Repairs

Brake Repairs — What is Typically Involved.

Most brake jobs come down to a few specific procedures:

  • Pad replacement — the most common brake repair, needed every 40,000-70,000 km on average. We supply the pads; your fitment partner does the work.
  • Disc replacement — done either with pads at end of disc life, or separately if discs are scored/warped. New pads on worn discs is a false economy.
  • Brake wear sensor replacement — needed every time pads are replaced on vehicles that use them.
  • Caliper service or hydraulic repairs — sticking calipers, leaking pistons, soft pedals from air or fluid issues. These are workshop tasks; we do not supply caliper rebuild kits but a competent workshop will source them.
  • Brake fluid changes — recommended every 2 years on most vehicles. Workshop task.

Clutch Repairs

Clutch Repairs — What is Typically Involved

Clutch work is one of the most labour-intensive routine repairs because the gearbox has to come out. A typical job:

  • Replace the complete clutch kit (friction disc, pressure plate, release bearing) — we supply Mecarm kits for most vehicles.
  • Inspect and possibly replace the flywheel — single-mass flywheels can often be skimmed; dual-mass flywheels usually need replacement when worn.
  • Bleed the hydraulic clutch system on cars with hydraulic actuation.
  • Bedding-in period of 500-1,000 km of gentle driving for the new clutch to seat properly.

Most clutch replacements take a full day of workshop time and benefit from being done by someone who has done many before.

Store Network

Our 14-Store Network.

Our stores are across Gauteng, the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and the North West, serving major metros and outlying towns. Each store is staffed by people who actually know brakes and clutches — we will happily look up the correct pads for your make/model, confirm whether discs should be replaced at the same time, and recommend a fitment partner in your area.

Choosing Fitment

How to Choose a Fitment Partner

If you do not already work with a workshop, a few principles:

  • Look for experience over price. A workshop that does a lot of brake or clutch work develops the small skills that make the job last — properly seating the pad backing, correctly bedding in new components, checking the flywheel, bleeding the hydraulic system properly.
  • Avoid “brake pads from R299 fitted” specials. Cheap branded specials almost always use uncertified pads that wear quickly, score discs, and dust heavily. The total cost over the next year is higher.
  • Ask about parts brand. A good workshop should tell you exactly which brand of pads/discs/clutch they are fitting. If they are vague, that is a flag.
  • Get a written warranty on labour. Most reputable workshops warrant the fitment work for at least 6 months.

Our store staff are happy to recommend fitment partners in your area — we have worked with most of them over the years and know who does good work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you do brake or clutch fitment at your stores?

No. We are parts specialists, not a workshop. Our 14 stores supply parts; trusted local fitment partners do the workshop work. Our staff can recommend a fitment partner in your area.

What's the difference between buying parts from you and going to a workshop directly?

Workshops mark up the parts they fit. By buying parts from us — either directly as a retail customer or through a workshop that does — you get OE-quality parts at fair prices and pay the workshop only for labour. Many workshops are happy to fit customer-supplied parts.

Can I get my brakes inspected without buying anything?

Our store staff can answer questions, look up parts, and advise — but we cannot physically inspect your brakes at the store. For an inspection, visit a fitment partner. Most workshops will inspect brakes free or at a nominal charge.

Do you offer warranties on parts?

All parts we supply are covered by their respective manufacturer warranties. Specifics depend on the part and brand — ask in-store before purchase if warranty terms matter for your job.

Do you supply parts other than brakes and clutches?

Yes. We stock filters (oil, air, fuel, cabin), wiper blades, and brake wear sensors as part of our regular range.

Do you fit parts for the public if I bring my car in?

No. We do not operate workshops, so we cannot physically work on your car. We supply parts and can refer you to a trusted fitment partner.
