Four Filters.
One Trusted Range.
Every modern car has at least four filters, and ignoring any of them shortens the life of the engine, fuel system, or HVAC. South African driving conditions — gravel roads, dust, varied fuel quality — make filter maintenance more important here than in many other markets. At Just Brakes & Clutch we stock OE-quality oil, air, fuel, and cabin filters for most popular vehicles on SA roads.
Our filter range is the INTA product line — OE-quality filters across all four filter types (oil, air, fuel, cabin), engineered to OEM fitment for most vehicles in South Africa. One supplier across the range means consistent quality and trade-friendly stocking.
The oil filter removes metal particles, carbon, and combustion by-products from the engine oil before they recirculate through bearings and journals. Every petrol or diesel engine has one, and it should be replaced at every oil change — typically every 10,000-15,000 km depending on the manufacturer’s service schedule.
A failing oil filter does not usually fail dramatically. It bypasses — meaning the filter element is too clogged to let oil through, and a bypass valve opens to keep oil flowing. Once that happens, every gram of contamination goes straight to the engine bearings. The damage is invisible until the engine starts knocking. Quality matters: cheap oil filters bypass earlier and at lower pressures.
The air filter prevents dust, sand, and grit from being drawn into the engine through the intake. In SA conditions — gravel roads, dust storms, summer construction — air filters work harder than they do in temperate climates. Manufacturer intervals are typically 20,000-30,000 km, but vehicles regularly used on dusty roads need replacement at half that.
A clogged air filter reduces power, worsens fuel economy, and in extreme cases lets unfiltered air past the seal, scoring cylinder walls. Visual inspection is cheap and quick — hold it up to a light. If barely any light passes through, replace it.
The fuel filter strains particulates and water from the fuel before it reaches the injection system. Petrol filters are often a lifetime fit on modern cars (replaced only on failure), while diesel filters are critical service items, typically replaced every 30,000-60,000 km. Diesel filters frequently include a water separator that drains contaminated fuel.
For modern direct-injection engines (most diesels and many newer petrols), fuel filter quality is non-negotiable. Cheap filters that pass abrasive particulates damage injectors costing R5,000-R15,000 each. Symptoms of a failing fuel filter: hesitation, stalling, hard starting, especially on diesels in cold weather.
The cabin filter cleans the air entering the cabin through the dashboard vents — pollen, dust, road grit, exhaust soot. Most SA drivers don’t know they have one until something goes wrong. Replace every 20,000-30,000 km, or annually for allergy sufferers.
A neglected cabin filter shows up as:

We supply INTA filters through 14 Just Brakes & Clutch stores nationwide, with trade accounts available for workshops and fleet operators. Search our parts catalogue by vehicle make, model, and engine to find the exact filter set you need — the Filter Kits tab shows oil, air, fuel, and cabin filter recommendations side-by-side. Our team can recommend a trusted fitment partner if you don’t already work with a workshop.
Yes, but not all at the same interval. Oil filter every oil change. Air and cabin filters every 20,000-30,000 km. Fuel filter on the manufacturer's schedule (often 30,000-60,000 km for diesel, longer for petrol).
Not immediately, but the wrong filter — cheap construction, poor bypass valve, insufficient filtration area — accelerates engine wear over thousands of kilometres. OE-quality filters cost a few rand more and protect a R100,000+ engine.
For most petrol cars, possibly — many modern petrol fuel filters are designed as lifetime fits. For diesels, almost certainly not. Diesel fuel filters at 80,000 km without replacement is asking for injector damage.
OEM filters are made for the carmaker, often by specialist suppliers. INTA aftermarket filters are made to OEM specification, certified for the same vehicles, and typically priced significantly lower. The filtration performance is equivalent.
We are parts specialists, not a workshop. Oil and cabin filters are simple enough that many owners change them at home; air and fuel filters vary by vehicle. We can recommend trusted fitment partners in your area.
Some performance air filters are designed to be washed and oiled. Standard paper/cellulose air, oil, fuel, and cabin filters are designed for single use — washing damages the filter media. Replace, do not clean.
